TEST 19A - Temperature Gauge Problem
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagrams, see appropriate chassis wiring diagram in the WIRING DIAGRAMS Section.
- Check cooling system operation. If cooling system is not operating correctly, repair cooling system as necessary. If cooling system is operating correctly, turn ignition switch to ON position.
- Using DRB-II, read engine temperature sensor voltage. If DRB-II displays less than one volt, go to step 6). If DRB-II displays more than one volt, disconnect engine temperature sensor connector. Temperature sensor is located near front of valve cover.
- Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Connect a jumper wire between Violet/Yellow wire of engine temperature sensor connector and ground. If DRB-II displays less than one volt, replace engine temperature sensor. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 .
- If DRB-II displays more than one volt, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect body controller Red connector. Body controller is located behind right side kick panel. Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Reconnect body controller Red connector.
- Connect a jumper wire between terminal No. 24 (Violet/Yellow wire) of body controller Red connector and ground. If DRB-II displays less than one volt, repair open Violet/Yellow wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 . If DRB-II displays more than one volt, replace body controller. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 .
- Disconnect engine temperature sensor connector. Temperature sensor is located near front of valve cover. Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary. If DRB-II displays more than 10 volts, replace engine temperature sensor. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 .
- If DRB-II displays less than 10 volts, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect both body controller connectors. Body controller is located behind right side kick panel. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary. Put DRB-II in voltmeter mode.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Probe terminal No. 6 (Dark Blue/White wire) of body controller Red connector. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Dark Blue/White wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 . If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn ignition switch to OFF position.
- Put DRB-II in ohmmeter mode. Probe terminal No. 24 (Violet/Yellow wire) of body controller Red connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Violet/Yellow wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace body controller. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 .
