Anti-Lock Brake System - BENDIX-10: Description

CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in the GENERAL INFORMATION section before disconnecting battery.

Bendix-10 Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) is designed to prevent wheel lock-up during heavy braking. This allows operator to maintain steering control, while stopping vehicle in shortest distance possible. Major components consist of the following: hydraulic assembly, 4 wheel speed sensors, Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB), 2 warning lights (Red BRAKE and Amber ANTI-LOCK), and a pump/motor assembly. See Fig 1. ABS has a self-diagnostic system for trouble shooting and system malfunction warning.

NOTE: For more information on brake system, see appropriate DISC & DRUM article.
