Test 20A - Seat Belt Warning Light
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
at end of article.
- Using DRB-II, stop sequential light test. Ensure left front seat belt is fastened. Using DRB-II, read seat belt switch status. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT OPEN, go to step 4). If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT OPEN, disconnect seat belt warning switch connector. See Fig 1 .
- Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT OPEN, replace seat belt switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT OPEN, turn ignition off. Disconnect both Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. BCM is located behind right side kick panel.
- Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary. Using DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on terminal No. 14 (Light Green/Red wire) of BCM Black connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Light Green/Red wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If DRB-II displayed CIRCUIT OPEN in step 1), unfasten left front seat belt. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace electronic instrument cluster. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, disconnect seat belt switch connector. See Fig 1 . Connect jumper wire between terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire) and terminal No. 2 (Black wire) of seat belt warning switch connector.
- If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace left front seat belt switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, connect jumper wire between terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire) of seat belt switch connector and ground. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, repair open Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If DRB-II did not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, disconnect jumper wire. Turn ignition off and access Body Control Module (BCM). DO NOT disconnect BCM connector. Connect jumper wire between terminalNo. 14 (Light Green/Red wire) of BCM Black connector and ground.
- If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, repair open Light Green/Red wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect both BCM connectors. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If connector condition is okay, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
