Test 38A - Driver's Door Ajar

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Ensure all doors are closed. If vehicle does not have an Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC), go to TEST 74A  . If vehicle has an EVIC, turn ignition on (engine off). Using DRB-II, read left front door ajar switch status. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, go to step 5). If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, open left front door.
  2. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, go to TEST 38B. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, disconnect left front door ajar switch connector. Switch is located at lower left "B" pillar. Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Connect jumper wire between Tan wire of left front door ajar switch connector and ground.
  3. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace left front door ajar switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, turn ignition off. Disconnect both Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. BCM is located behind right side kick panel. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary.
  4. Reconnect both BCM connectors. Connect jumper wire between terminal No. 1 (Tan wire) of BCM Black connector and ground. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, repair open Tan wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  5. If DRB-II displayed CIRCUIT CLOSED in step 1), disconnect left front door ajar switch connector. Switch is located at lower left "B" pillar. Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace left front door ajar switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  6. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, turn ignition off. Disconnect vehicle theft alarm module (if equipped). See Figure . Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace vehicle theft alarm module. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  7. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, disconnect both Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. BCM is located behind right side kick panel. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary. Using DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on terminal No. 1 (Tan wire) of BCM Black connector.
  8. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Tan wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
