Grid Filament Test
- Turn ignition and control switch on. Indicator light should illuminate. Set voltmeter to 0-15 volt range. Connect negative lead of voltmeter to ground bus bar "B". Connect positive lead of voltmeter to voltage feed bus bar "A". See Figure
.
- Voltmeter reading should be 10-14 volts. A lower voltage reading indicates a poor ground connection. Touch negative lead of voltmeter to a good body ground. Voltage reading should not change.
- Connect negative lead of voltmeter to ground bus bar "B" and touch each grid line at midpoint with positive lead. A reading of about 6 volts indicates line is good. A reading of zero volts indicates a break in line between midpoint "C" and voltage feed bus bar "A". A reading of 10-14 volts indicates a break in line between midpoint "C" and bus bar "B". Move probe toward bus bar "A" or "B". Voltage will change when break is crossed. See Figure
and Fig 1
