Test 6A - Repairing Instrument Cluster Temperature Gauge

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Ensure engine cooling system is operating properly. Repair as necessary. If engine cooling system is okay, go to next step.
  2. Using DRB, select engine controller. If DRB does not display ENGINE CONTROLLER ACTIVE ON THE BUS, go to TEST 56A  . If DRB displays ENGINE CONTROLLER ACTIVE ON THE BUS, go to next step.
  3. Using DRB, read Powertrain Control Module (PCM) faults. If DRB displays ECT SENSOR VOLTAGE TOO HIGH, proceed to appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section below. If DRB does not display ECT SENSOR VOLTAGE TOO HIGH, go to next step.
  4. If DRB displays ECT SENSOR VOLTAGE TOO LOW, see appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section below. If DRB does not display ECT SENSOR VOLTAGE TOO LOW, replace PCM. PCM is located under air cleaner.
