Test 27A - All Brake Lamps Out

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Inspect fuse No. 21. See Figure . If fuse is okay, go to TEST 27B. If fuse is open, disconnect brake lamp switch connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Put DRB in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at brake lamp switch connector terminal No. 5 (Pink/Dark Blue wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Pink/Dark Blue wire between brake lamp switch connector and fuse No. 21 for short to ground. Replace fuse.
  2. Disconnect center high mounted stop lamp connector. Disconnect lamp outage module 14-pin connector (located behind glove box). Reconnect brake lamp switch connector. Replace fuse. Press and release brake pedal. Inspect fuse No. 21. If fuse is open, replace brake lamp switch and replace fuse. If fuse is okay, go to next step.
  3. Measure resistance at brake lamp switch connector terminal No. 2 or 8 (White/Tan wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair appropriate White/Tan wire between brake lamp switch connector and lamp outage module 14-pin connector (located behind glove box) for short to ground. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect all stop lamp connectors. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Inspect and replace any defective bulbs. If no bulbs are defective, inspect, clean and repair bulb sockets as needed. If bulb sockets are okay, go to next step.
  5. Measure resistance at lamp outage module 14-pin connector terminal No. 3 (Dark Green wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Dark Green wire between lamp outage module 14-pin connector and left side brake lamp connector for short to ground. Replace fuse No. 21.
  6. Measure resistance at lamp outage module 14-pin connector terminal No. 9 (Brown/White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Brown/White wire between lamp outage module 14-pin connector and right side brake lamp connector for short to ground. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, system is operating properly at this time.
