Solenoid & Modulator Circuits

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAM.
  1. Inspect Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) 6-pin connector. If connection is loose, repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1A. If connection is okay, turn ignition off. Disconnect HCU 6-pin connector. If connector is damaged, repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1A. If connector is okay, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of HCU 6-pin connector terminals No. 5 (Black wire) and No. 6 (Black wires). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate Black wire. Perform TEST VER-1A. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate left front decay solenoid. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on HCU 6-pin connector terminal No. 3 (Brown/Yellow wire). If reading does not switch between zero and 10 or more volts, go to TEST 2C. If reading switches between zero and 10 or more volts, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool, actuate right front decay solenoid. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on HCU 6-pin connector terminal No. 2 (Dark Green/Yellow wire). If reading does not switch between zero and 10 or more volts, go to TEST 2D. If reading switches between zero and 10 or more volts, go to next step.
  5. Using scan tool, actuate left rear decay solenoid. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on HCU 6-pin connector terminal No. 1 (Brown/Light Blue wire). If reading does not switch between zero and 10 or more volts, go to TEST 2E. If reading switches between zero and 10 or more volts, go to next step.
  6. Using scan tool, actuate right rear decay solenoid. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on HCU 6-pin connector terminal No. 4 (Dark Green/Light Blue wire). If reading does not switch between zero and 10 or more volts, go to TEST 2F. If reading switches between zero and 10 or more volts, go to next step.
  7. Stop actuator test. Reconnect HCU 6-pin connector. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB) 60-pin connector. Inspect, clean and repair connector as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1A. If connector is okay, use an external ohmmeter to check resistance between chassis ground and CAB connector terminals No. 42 (Brown/Yellow wire), No. 43 (Dark Green/Yellow wire), No. 46 (Brown/Light Blue) and No. 48 (Dark Green/Light Blue wire). If all resistance readings are 2-9 ohms, go to TEST 20A. If all resistance readings are not 2-9 ohms, replace HCU. Perform TEST VER-1A.
