Test 38A - Missing Brake Lamp Out Message

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 3.0L article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
  1. Remove and inspect both brakelamp bulbs. Replace brakelamp bulbs if needed. If brakelamp bulbs are okay, reinstall brakelamps and go to next step.
  2. Gain access to lamp outage module connector, located behind glove box and in front of A/C blower resistor. Connect jumper wire between lamp outage module 5-pin connector terminal No. 2 (Light Blue/Black wire) and No. 3 (Black/Light Green wire). Start engine. If EVIC panel displays BRAKE LAMP OUT, replace lamp outage module. If EVIC panel does not display BRAKE LAMP OUT, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect jumper wire. Connect jumper wire between lamp outage module 5-pin connector terminal No. 2 (Light Blue/Black wire) and chassis ground. If EVIC panel displays BRAKE LAMP OUT, repair open in Black/Light Green wire between lamp outage module 5-pin connector terminal No. 3 and chassis ground. If EVIC panel does not display BRAKE LAMP OUT, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect jumper wire. Gain access to Body Control Module (BCM), located behind right kick panel. Disconnect BCM Natural connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Reconnect BCM Natural connector. Connect jumper wire between BCM Natural connector terminal No. 13 (Light Blue/Black wire) and chassis ground. If EVIC displays BRAKE LAMP OUT, repair open in Light Blue/Black wire between BCM Natural connector and lamp outage module. If EVIC does not display BRAKE LAMP OUT, replace BCM.
