Test 46A - Faulty Fasten Seat Belt Message

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 3.0L article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
  1. Ensure left front seat belt is fastened. Using scan tool, read seat belt switch status. If scan tool displays SEAT BELT OPEN, go to step 4). If scan tool does not display SEAT BELT OPEN, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect seat belt switch connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. If scan tool displays SEAT BELT OPEN, replace seat belt switch. If scan tool does not display SEAT BELT OPEN, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Black connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of BCM Black connector terminal No. 14 (Light Green/Red wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Light Green/Red wire between BCM Black connector and seat belt switch connector for short to ground. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM.
  4. Unfasten left front seat belt. If scan tool displays SEAT BELT CLOSED, verify customer's complaint and retest system. If scan tool does not display SEAT BELT CLOSED, go to next step.
  5. Disconnect seat belt switch connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Connect jumper wire between seat belt switch connector terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire) and terminal No. 2 (Black/Orange wire). If scan tool displays SEAT BELT CLOSED, replace seat belt switch. If scan tool does not display SEAT BELT CLOSED, go to next step.
  6. Disconnect jumper wire. Connect jumper wire between seat belt switch connector terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire) and chassis ground. If scan tool displays SEAT BELT CLOSED, repair open in Black/Orange wire between seat belt switch connector and chassis ground. If scan tool does not display SEAT BELT CLOSED, go to next step.
  7. Disconnect jumper wire. Gain access to BCM. With connectors connected, connect jumper wire between BCM Black connector terminal No. 14 (Light Green/Red wire) and chassis ground. If scan tool displays SEAT BELT CLOSED, repair open Light Green/Red wire between BCM Black connector and seat belt switch. If scan tool does not display SEAT BELT CLOSED, replace BCM.
