Test 56A - Washer Fluid Low
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 3.0L
article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
- Check washer fluid level and add fluid if needed. If washer reservoir is full, use scan tool to read washer fluid switch status. If scan tool displays WASH FLUID OPEN, go to step 4). If scan tool does not display WASH FLUID OPEN, go to next step.
- Disconnect washer fluid level switch connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. If scan tool displays WASH FLUID OPEN, replace washer fluid level switch. If scan tool does not display WASH FLUID OPEN, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Natural connector. BCM is located behind right kick panel. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of washer fluid level switch connector terminal No. 1 (Black/Tan wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Black/Tan wire between washer fluid level switch connector and BCM Natural connector for short to ground. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM.
- If scan tool displays WASH FLUID OPEN in step 1), disconnect washer fluid level switch connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Connect jumper wire between washer fluid level switch connector terminals No. 2 (Black/Light Green wire) and No. 1 (Black/Tan wire). If scan tool displays WASH FLUID CLOSED, replace washer fluid level switch. If scan tool does not display WASH FLUID CLOSED, go to next step.
- Disconnect jumper wire. Connect jumper wire between washer fluid level switch connector terminal No. 1 (Black/Tan wire) and ground. If scan tool displays WASH FLUID CLOSED, repair Black/Light Green wire between washer fluid level switch connector and BCM Natural connector for open to ground. If scan tool does not display WASH FLUID CLOSED, go to next step.
- Gain access to BCM, located behind right kick panel. With connectors connected, connect jumper wire between BCM Natural connector terminal No. 19 (Black/Tan wire) and ground. If scan tool displays WASH FLUID CLOSED, repair open Black/Tan wire between BCM Natural connector and washer fluid level switch connector.
