Test 77C - Short To Ground In Check Gauges Lamp

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 3.0L article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Disconnect oil pressure sending unit connector. Oil pressure sending unit is located near oil filter. Check connector condition and clean or repair connector as necessary. If check gauges warning lamp turns off, replace oil pressure oil sending unit. If check gauges warning lamp stays on, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Black connector. BCM is located behind right side kick panel. Check condition of connector and clean or repair connector as necessary. Turn ignition on, engine off. If check gauges warning lamp turns off, replace BCM. If check gauges warning lamp stays on, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect instrument cluster Black connector. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of BCM Black connector terminal No. 24 (Dark Green/Yellow wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Green/Yellow wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace mechanical instrument cluster.
