Checking Minimum Idle Airflow

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCV valve hose from PCV valve. Install Vacuum Fitting (6457) to PCV valve hose opening. Disconnect 3/16" idle purge hose from throttle body. Cap 3/16" idle purge hose opening. Start engine. Allow engine to reach normal operating temperature. Using scan tool, actuate minimum airflow.
  2. If engine speed is between 500-1000 RPM, stop actuation test. Minimum idle airflow is okay. Test is complete. If engine speed is not between 500-1000 RPM, go to next step.
  3. Stop actuation test. Turn engine off. Using an approved cleaner, clean throttle body bore and throttle blade. Start engine. Using scan tool, actuate minimum idle airflow. If engine speed is 500-1000 RPM, repair is complete. Perform TEST VER-2 . If engine speed is not 500-1000 RPM, replace throttle body. Perform TEST VER-2.
