Test 46A - Headlight Time Delay Will Not Turn On
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER
section in this article. Perform TEST VER-1
VERIFICATION TEST after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate headlight time delay relay. If headlights do not toggle on and off, go to TEST 46B . If headlights toggle on and off, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, stop headlight time delay relay actuation. Turn headlight switch on. If headlights do not come on, repair open Light Green wire. If headlights come on, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, read headlight switch status while turning headlight switch off then back on. If scan tool reading corresponds with headlight switch position, HEADLAMPS OFF (switch off) then HEADLAMPS ON (switch on), replace Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located behind right kick panel. If scan tool reading does not correspond to headlight switch position, go to next step.
- Remove fuse No. 5 from junction block. See Figure . Junction block is located behind end cover, on left side of instrument panel. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on fuse No. 5 connector (Light Green wire). If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Light Green wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
- Turn headlight switch off. Inspect fuse No. 5. If fuse is open, go to step 7). If fuse is okay, turn ignition off. Disconnect BCM connectors. Turn headlight switch on. Go to next step.
- Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on BCM Bone connector terminal No. 3 (Red/Light Green wire). If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Red/Light Green wire between fuse No. 5 and BCM. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace BCM.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. BCM is located behind right kick panel. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of BCM Bone connector terminal No. 3 (Red/Light Green wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Red/Light Green wire and replace fuse No. 5. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, replace BCM and replace fuse No. 5.
