Test 15C: Pump Motor Circuit Not Working Properly

NOTE: Perform TEST 15A: PUMP MOTOR CIRCUIT NOT WORKING PROPERLY before proceeding. For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS .

Inspect pump/motor relay fuse "C" in Power Distribution Center (PDC). See Fig 1 . PDC is located in engine compartment, next to battery. If fuse is blown, go to next step. If fuse is okay, repair open Dark Blue wire from PDC to pump/motor relay. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST .

Remove pump/motor relay. Inspect connector and terminals for damage. Repair connector and terminals as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST . If connector and terminals are okay, go to next step.
Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of pump/motor relay connector terminal "D" (Dark Blue wire). See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Blue wire. Replace pump/motor relay fuse "C". Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST .
Disconnect pump/motor connector. Inspect connector and terminals for damage. Repair connector and terminals as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST . If connector and terminals are okay, go to next step.
CAUTION: Ensure correct Brown/White wire is checked in following step as two Brown/White wires are used at pump/motor relay connector. Check voltage on pump/motor relay connector terminal "B".
Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of pump/motor connector terminal "B" (Brown/White wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Brown/White wire. Replace pump/motor relay fuse "C". Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST .
Reconnect pump/motor and pump/motor relay connectors. Replace pump/motor relay fuse "C". Go to next step.
Using scan tool, actuate pump/motor while observing pump/motor relay fuse "C". If pump/motor relay fuse "C" does not blow, go to next step. If pump/motor relay fuse "C" blows again, replace pump/motor and pump/motor relay fuse "C". Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST .
At this time, condition that caused pump/motor relay fuse "C" to blow is not present. Inspect related wiring harness for defective connectors, bare or broken wires. Check for any technical service bulletins that may apply. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST .
