In-Vehicle Temperature Sensor

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1998 Dodge Intrepid and 1998 Chrysler Concorde. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

In-vehicle temperature sensor is composed of a temperature thermistor and a sensor aspirator fan assembly. Temperature thermistor is located in ATC control head, below blower motor control selector. See Figure . Sensor aspirator fan assembly is attached to the back of the ATC control head. During fan operation passenger compartment air is drawn into sensor, over temperature thermistor. BCM measures thermistor resistance changes, calculates air temperature, and changes ATC system operation to make temperature adjustments.

DTCs will set if sensor failure is detected by BCM. Sensor aspirator fan assembly can be serviced separately. Temperature thermistor is serviced by replacing ATC control head.

In-vehicle temperature sensor will operate when ignition is turned on, even if ATC is turned off. Sensor will turn off when ignition switch is turned off after driving vehicle. If a door is opened and not closed, and ignition is not turned on, sensor will turn off about 2 minutes after door is opened. If a door is opened and closed without turning ignition on, sensor will turn off about 2 minutes after door is closed.
