Instrument Cluster Test 5A - Cluster Illumination
NOTE:
Perform INSTUMENT CLUSTER TEST 1A
before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
For wiring diagrams, refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Perform, after each repair, TEST VER-1A - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE
.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read Body Control Module (BCM) fault messages. If scan tool does not display PANEL LAMP PWM OUTPUT FAILURE, go to next step. If scan tool displays PANEL LAMP PWM OUTPUT FAILURE, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 5B .
- Turn parking lights on. If parking lights illuminate, go to next step. If parking lights do not illuminate, repair parking lights as necessary.
- Using scan tool, read parking light status. If scan tool displays PARK LAMPS: ON, go to next step. If scan tool does not display PARK LAMPS: ON, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 5F .
- Using scan tool, read panel light sensor voltage. If scan tool displays zero volts, go to next step. If scan tool displays more than zero volts, go to step 6).
- While using scan tool to read panel light sensor voltage, rotate dimmer control switch between high and low. If voltage changes, go to next step. If voltage does not change, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 5G .
- Ensure parking lights are on and dimmer switch is at midway position. Locate instrument panel 10-pin connector at Body Control Module (BCM). See Figure in CHIME TEST 3A. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage at instrument panel 10-pin connector terminals No. 3 (Orange/Yellow wire), No. 4 (Orange/Brown wire), No. 9 (Orange wire) and No. 10 (Orange/Gray wire). As each terminal is backprobed, rotate dimmer switch from low to high. If voltage increases from zero volts to 12 volts at all terminals, go to next step. If voltage does not increase at any terminal, replace BCM.
- Disconnect instrument cluster Blue 13-pin connector and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage at terminal No. 10 (Orange/Yellow wire) on instrument cluster Blue 13-pin connector. If voltage is more than 5 volts, replace instrument cluster. If voltage is 5 volts or less, repair open in Orange/Yellow wire between instrument cluster and BCM.
