Wiper Park Switch Failure
NOTE:
Perform WINDSHIELD WIPER TEST 1A before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see
BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST: VER-2A after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Operate windshield wipers in intermittent mode. Using scan tool, monitor wiper park switch. If scan tool displays wiper park switch toggle CLOSED to OPEN, system is currently operating correctly. If scan tool does not display wiper park switch toggle CLOSED to OPEN, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Access Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is mounted to junction block located behind left end cap of instrument panel. See Figure. Using external ohmmeter, backprobe BCM Bone 12-pin connector C3.
- Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Tan/Red wire). Turn ignition on. Place wiper switch in LOW speed position. If resistance pulsates, replace BCM. If resistance does not pulsate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Connect jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 3 (Tan/Red wire) on BCM Bone connector. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 4 (Tan/Red wire) on wiper motor harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace wiper motor. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open Tan/Red wire.
