DTC P0202: Injector No. 2 Control Circuit

NOTE:
Monitored when battery voltage is more than 12 volts, ASD relay is energized, injector pulse width is less than 10ms, and engine speed is less than 3000 RPM. Set condition is when no inductive kick is sensed .18ms after injector turn off with no other injectors on. This code takes .64-10 seconds to set. Possible causes are: ASD relay output circuit open, defective injector, injector driver circuit open, injector driver circuit short to ground, intermittent wiring harness failure or defective PCM.
- Start engine and idle for at least 20 seconds. Turn engine off. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If GLOBAL GOOD TRIP displayed is equal to zero, go to next step. If GLOBAL GOOD TRIP displayed is not equal to zero, go to step 7 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect injector No. 2 connector. On 2.5L, it may be necessary to remove upper intake manifold to access injector. Inspect electrical connectors and clean/repair as necessary. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate injector No. 2. Using a 12-volt test light, check ASD relay output circuit (Dark Green/Orange wire) at injector No. 2 connector. If test light is brightly illuminated, go to next step. If test light is not brightly illuminated, repair open (high resistance) in ASD relay output circuit. Perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD II VERIFICATION .
- Turn ignition off. Using an analog voltmeter, connect positive lead to 12 volts. Connect negative lead to injector No. 2 connector driver circuit (Tan wire). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate injector No. 2 and observe voltmeter. If voltmeter needle does not fluctuate, go to next step. If voltmeter fluctuates, replace fuel injector. Perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD II VERIFICATION .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector C1 (located nearest to front of vehicle). PCM is located to left of Power Distribution Center (PDC) in engine compartment. Inspect electrical connector and clean/repair as necessary. Using a DVOM, check resistance of injector driver circuit between injector No. 2 connector (Tan wire) and chassis ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on injector driver circuit. A shorted injector driver circuit may also have damaged fuel injector. Perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD II VERIFICATION .
- Using a DVOM, check resistance of injector driver circuit between injector No. 2 connector (Tan wire) and PCM connector C1 terminal No. 17 (Tan wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open injector driver circuit. Perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD II VERIFICATION .
- If no other potential causes are remaining, PCM is assumed to be defective. Replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD II VERIFICATION .
- Turn ignition off. Inspect electrical connectors and wiring. Clean/repair as necessary. If no problems were found, go to next step. If any problems were found, repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD II VERIFICATION .
- Start engine. Wiggle wiring harness from injector to PCM connector C1. Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector C1 (located nearest to front of vehicle). PCM is located to left of Power Distribution Center (PDC) in engine compartment. If wiggling did not cause engine to miss or stall, go to next step. If wiggling caused engine to miss or stall, repair wiring harness as necessary where wiggling caused problem to appear. Perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD II VERIFICATION .
- Using scan tool, read FREEZE FRAME data. Ensure caused by DTC (P0202) matches DTC on scan tool. Utilize FREEZE FRAME data to help in diagnostics. Condition to set trouble code is not present at this time. Visually inspect related wiring harnesses and connectors. Check for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Check for chafed, pierced or partially broken wires. Check Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) for any pertinent information. Test is complete.
