Instrument Cluster And Panel Illumination Malfunctions

NOTE: Perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 1A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION. Perform VERIFICATION TEST: VER-2A  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using scan tool, select BODY SENSORS. Read dimming level voltage. Rotate dimmer switch to low, then high position. If scan tool displays voltage change from 3 volts (approximately) to zero volts, go to next step. If scan tool does not display voltage change from 3 volts (approximately) to zero volts, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 3A .
  2. While observing instrument panel lights, rotate dimmer switch from low to high position. If lights stay at full brightness, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 9B . If lights fail to illuminate, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 9C . If lights illuminate, but do not stay at full brightness, system is currently operating correctly.
