Test NTC-12A: Checking Idle Air Control Motor

NOTE: Perform TEST NTC-1A: NO TROUBLE CODES (NTC) TESTS  before proceeding.
  1. Using scan tool, set engine speed to 1400 RPM. If engine speed is 1300-1500 RPM, return engine to normal idle speed. Idle Air Control (IAC) motor is okay. Test is complete. If engine speed is not 1300-1500 RPM, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, return engine to normal idle speed. Inspect engine for any vacuum leaks. If vacuum leaks are present, repair vacuum leaks as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION . If vacuum leaks are not present, go to next step.
    NOTE: For next 4 test steps, see IAC DRIVER CIRCUIT ID  table for IAC motor connector wire color identification and PCM CONNECTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION  table.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect IAC motor connector. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Using an ohmmeter, check if an open circuit is present between IAC motor connector IAC motor driver No. 1 circuit and PCM connector terminal No. 57. If an open circuit is not present, go to next step. If an open circuit is present, repair open in IAC motor driver No. 1 circuit. Perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION .
  4. Using an ohmmeter, check if an open circuit is present between IAC motor connector IAC motor driver No. 2 circuit and PCM connector terminal No. 49. If an open circuit is not present, go to next step. If an open circuit is present, repair open in IAC motor driver No. 2 circuit. Perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION .
  5. Using an ohmmeter, check if an open circuit is present between IAC motor connector IAC motor driver No. 3 circuit and PCM connector terminal No. 48. If an open circuit is not present, go to next step. If an open circuit is present, repair open in IAC motor driver No. 3 circuit. Perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION .
  6. Using an ohmmeter, check if an open circuit is present between IAC motor connector IAC motor driver No. 4 circuit and PCM connector terminal No. 58. If an open circuit is not present, replace IAC motor. Perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION . If an open circuit is present, repair open in IAC motor driver No. 4 circuit. Perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION .
