DTC P0463: Fuel Level Sending Unit Volts Too High
NOTE:
For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
.
NOTE:
Fuel level sending unit may also be referred to as fuel level sensor. Fuel tank module may also be referred to as fuel pump module. Possible causes for DTC to be set are: defective fuel level sending unit, defective Body Control Module (BCM), or defective connectors or wiring.
- Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, check for DTCs. If GLOBAL GOOD TRIP counter is displayed and equal to zero, go to next step. If GLOBAL GOOD TRIP counter is not displayed and equal to zero, go to step 7 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel tank module connector. Fuel tank module contains fuel pump along with fuel level sending unit and is located on top of fuel tank.
- Connect jumper wire between terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 3 (Dark Blue wire) on fuel tank module connector. Using scan tool, read fuel level sensor voltage on scan tool. If fuel level sensor voltage is one volt or more, go to next step. If fuel level sensor voltage is less than one volt, replace fuel level sending unit. Perform TEST VER-2A .
- Remove jumper wire. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and terminal No. 1 (Black wire) on fuel tank module connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open on Black wire between fuel tank module and ground. Perform TEST VER-2A .
- Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connector "B". BCM connector "B" is a Gray or White connector and may also be referred to as connector C2. The BCM is located behind junction block, just to left of brake pedal. See Figure .
- Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminal No. 3 (Dark Blue wire) on fuel tank module connector and terminal No. 46 (Dark Blue wire) on BCM connector "B". If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Reporgram BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING. Perform TEST VER-2A . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open on Dark Blue wire between BCM and fuel level sending unit. Perform TEST VER-2A .
- Ensure ignition is on with engine off. Using scan tool, read fuel level sensor voltage while wiggling wiring harness and connectors between Body Control Module (BCM) connector "B" and fuel level sending unit. The BCM is located behind junction block, just to left of brake pedal. See Figure . Fuel level sending unit is located on fuel tank module which contains fuel pump and is located on top of fuel tank.
- If fuel level sensor voltage does not change while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, go to next step. If fuel level sensor voltage changes while wiggling wiring harness, repair wiring or connectors as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2A .
- Turn ignition off. Inspect Dark Blue wire and connectors between fuel level sending unit and terminal No. 46 (Dark Blue wire) on BCM connector "B". If no problems exist, test is complete. Perform TEST VER-2A . If any problems exist, repair wiring or connectors as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2A .
