Driver Door Fails To Lock & Unlock
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module connector, located under pad in center of instrument panel. Lower driver window. Connect a jumper wire between RKE module connector terminals No. 16, door lock driver circuit (Orange/Black wire) and No. 8, ground circuit (Black wire). See Figure. Manually lock driver door. Connect second jumper wire to RKE module connector terminal No. 5, driver door unlock driver circuit (Pink/Black wire). Observe driver door lock while momentarily touching other end of second jumper wire to RKE module connector terminal No. 3, fused B+ circuit (Red wire). Driver door should unlock. Disconnect jumper wires. Connect a jumper wire between RKE module connector terminals No. 5, driver door unlock driver circuit (Pink/Black wire) and No. 8, ground circuit (Black wire). Manually unlock driver door. Connect second jumper wire to RKE module connector terminal No. 16, door lock driver circuit (Orange/Black wire). Observe driver door lock while momentarily touching other end of second jumper wire to RKE module connector terminal No. 3, fused B+ circuit (Red wire). Driver door should lock. If door locks and unlocks, go to next step. If door does not lock and unlock, replace RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Reconnect RKE connector. Remove driver inner door trim to gain access to driver door lock motor. See FRONT DOOR TRIM PANEL under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect door lock motor connector. Connect a 12-volt test light between door lock motor connector terminals No. 3, driver door unlock driver circuit (Pink/Black wire) and No. 4, door lock driver circuit (Orange/Black wire). See Figure. Press door lock switch to lock and unlock positions. If test light does not illuminate when door lock switch is pressed, go to next step. If test light illuminates when door lock switch is pressed, replace door lock motor.
- Disconnect RKE connector. Using ohmmeter, check resistance of door lock driver circuit (Orange/Black wire) between RKE module connector terminal No. 16 and driver door lock motor connector terminal No. 4. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Orange/Black wire.
- Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of driver door unlock driver circuit (Pink/Black wire) between RKE module connector terminal No. 5 and driver door lock motor connector terminal No. 3. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Pink/Black wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, test is complete.
