Engine Identification

2.4L DOHC engines are equipped with 2 balance shafts installed in a carrier attached to lower crankcase. The shafts are interconnected by gears to rotate in opposite directions. Gears are chain driven by the crankshaft at twice crankshaft speed, to counterbalance engine reciprocating masses. See Fig 1.
