Brake Switch Sense Status Does Not Change On Scan Tool: Testing

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect brake switch connector. Inspect connector and clean or repair as necessary. Using DVOM, measure resistance between brake switch connector terminal No. 5 (Black/Tan wire) and ground. See Figure. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open on Black/Tan wire. Perform TEST VER-4A  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  2. Disconnect Black 40-pin PCM connector C2. Using DVOM, measure resistance of White/Pink wire between PCM connector C2 terminal No. 62 and brake switch harness connector terminal No. 6. See Figure. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open on White/Pink wire. Perform TEST VER-4A  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  3. Using DVOM, measure resistance between brake switch terminal No. 6 (White/Pink wire) and ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on White/Pink wire. Perform TEST VER-4A  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
NOTE: Ensure brake pedal is not depressed during next step.
  4. Using DVOM, measure resistance between brake switch terminals No. 5 and 6 (switch side). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. See Figure. If resistance 5 ohms or more, replace brake switch. See BRAKE SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform TEST VER-4A  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  5. Replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-4A  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
