Doors Lockable With Key In Ignition & Driver Door Open
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Open the drivers door. With the DRBIII select: BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER, INPUT/OUTPUT. Read the Drv Door Ajar Sw state. If the DRBIII shows: CLOSED, go to the next step. If the DRBIII does not show: CLOSED, go to step 5.
- Remove the driver door inner trim panel to gain access to the door lock motor/ajar switch connector. See FRONT DOOR TRIM PANEL under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect the driver door lock motor/ajar switch connector. See Figure. Connect a jumper wire between door ajar switch sense circuit and ground. With the DRBIII select: BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER, INPUT/OUTPUT. Read the Drv Door Ajar Sw state. If the DRBIII shows: CLOSED, replace the driver door ajar switch. If the DRBIII does not show: CLOSED, go to the next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect the driver door lock motor/ajar switch connector. Disconnect the instrument cluster connector. See Figure. Measure the resistance of the driver door ajar switch sense circuit between the driver door lock motor/ajar switch connector and the instrument cluster connector. If the resistance is below 5 ohms, go to the next step. If the resistance is above 5 ohms, repair the door ajar switch sense wire for an open.
- If there are no possible causes remaining, replace the instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article.
- Ensure that the key is still in the ignition switch. With the DRBIII, read the key-in ignition status. If the DRBIII does not show KEY IN IGN: CLOSED, go to the next step. If the DRBIII shows KEY IN IGN: CLOSED, go to step 9.
- Ensure the instrument cluster is connected before proceeding. Disconnect the ignition switch connector. See Fig 1. Connect a jumper wire from the key-in ignition switch sense circuit in the ignition switch connector to ground. With the DRBIII, read the key-in ignition status. If the DRBIII shows KEY IN IGN: CLOSED, replace the ignition switch. See IGNITION SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. If the DRBIII does not show KEY IN IGN: CLOSED, go to the next step.
- Disconnect the ignition switch connector. Disconnect the instrument cluster connector. Measure the resistance of the key-in ignition switch sense circuit between the ignition switch connector and the instrument cluster connector. If the resistance is below 5 ohms, go to the next step. If the resistance is above 5 ohms, repair the open key-in ignition switch sense wire.
- If there are no possible causes remaining, replace the instrument cluster (key-in ign open). See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article.
- Turn ignition off. Remove the driver door inner trim panel. Disconnect the driver door lock motor/ajar switch connector. Disconnect the RKE module connector. Measure the resistance of the driver door ajar switch sense circuit between the driver door lock motor/ajar switch connector and the RKE module connector. See Figure. If the resistance is below 5 ohms, go to the next step. If the resistance is above 5 ohms, repair the open door ajar switch sense wire.
- If there are no possible causes remaining, replace the remote keyless entry module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
