No Response From Instrument Cluster
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Ram Wagon, 2002 Dodge Ram Van, 2001 Dodge Ram Wagon, and 2001 Dodge Ram Van. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST
under VERIFICATION TESTS after each repair.
Possible Causes:
- Fused B(+) Circuit Open
- Fused Ignition Switch Output Circuit Open
- Ground Circuit Open
- Open CCD Bus (+) Circuit
- Open CCD Bus (-) Circuit
- Instrument Cluster
Testing
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Electro-Mechanical Instrument Cluster (EMIC) connector C1. See ELECTRO-MECHANICAL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between ground and EMIC connector C1 terminal No. 6 (Pink/White wire). See Figure . If voltage is more than 10.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10.5 volts of less, repair open in Pink/White wire.
- Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between ground and EMIC connector C1 terminal No. 2 (Dark Blue/Pink wire). If voltage is more than 10.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10.5 volts of less, repair open in Dark Blue/Pink wire.
- Turn ignition off. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between ground and EMIC connector C1 terminal No. 4 (Black/Dark Green wire). Using a DVOM, measure resistance between ground and EMIC connector C2 terminal No. 7 (Black wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire between EMIC and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, turn on internal bus bias under SYSTEM MONITORS, then monitor CCD BUS VOLTAGE. Using a jumper wire, connect EMIC connector C1 terminal No. 10 (Violet/Brown wire) to ground. If CCD BUS VOLTAGE reading does not drop to about zero volts, repair open Violet/Brown wire. If CCD BUS VOLTAGE reading drops to about zero volts, go to next step.
- Remove jumper wire. Using jumper wire, connect EMIC connector C1 terminal No. 9 (White/Black wire) to ground. If CCD BUS VOLTAGE reading drops to about zero volts, replace EMIC. See ELECTRO-MECHANICAL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If CCD BUS VOLTAGE reading does not drop to about zero volts, repair open in White/Black wire.
