No Response From PCM (SCI Only)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Ram Wagon, 2002 Dodge Ram Van, 2001 Dodge Ram Wagon, and 2001 Dodge Ram Van. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST
under VERIFICATION TESTS after each repair.
Possible Causes:
- Check PCM Powers And Grounds
- SCI Transmit Circuit Shorted To Ground
- SCI Transmit Circuit Shorted To Voltage
- SCI Receive Circuit Shorted To Voltage
- SCI Circuits Shorted Together
- SCI Receive Circuit Open
- SCI Receive Transmit Circuit Open
- Powertrain Control Module
Testing
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using scan tool, attempt to retrieve DTCs from PCM. If ignition was off when NO RESPONSE message was displayed, turn ignition on and retest. If ignition was on when NO RESPONSE message was displayed, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect scan tool from DLC. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between ground and DLC terminals No. 4 (Black/Tan wire) and No. 5 (Black/Violet wire). See Figure . If resistance is more than 5 ohms on either circuit, repair open in Black/Tan wire or Black/Violet wire between DLC and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms on both circuits, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Replace scan tool adapter cable with known-good unit and attempt to read DTCs. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to next step. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE, replace faulty cable.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect scan tool from DLC. Disconnect PCM connectors. Using a DVOM, measure resistance of Light Green wire between PCM connector C3 terminal No. 29 and DLC terminal No. 6. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open or high resistance in Light Green wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Using a DVOM, measure resistance between ground and DLC terminal No. 6 (Light Green wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Light Green wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Using a DVOM, measure resistance of Pink wire between PCM connector C3 terminal No. 27 and DLC terminal No. 7. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open or high resistance in Pink wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Using a DVOM, measure resistance between ground and DLC terminal No. 7 (Pink wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Pink wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Connect scan tool to a known-good vehicle. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE, replace scan tool. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, replace PCM in initial vehicle.
