Door Key Cylinder Disarm Inoperative

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Ram Wagon, 2002 Dodge Ram Van, 2001 Dodge Ram Wagon, and 2001 Dodge Ram Van. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS after each repair

Possible Causes:

  1. Open Ground Wire
  2. Passenger Key Cylinder Open Ground Wire
  3. Door Key Cylinder Mechanical Malfunction
  4. Driver Key Cylinder Open Ground Wire
  5. Passenger Key Cylinder Open Ground Wire
  6. Cylinder Lock Switch MUX Circuit Short To Ground
  7. Disarm Switch Circuit Open Driver Door Switch
  8. Disarm Switch Circuit Open Passenger Door Switch
  9. Disarm Switch Circuit Shorted To Voltage
  10. CTM Disarm Reference Voltage Output
  11. Driver Cylinder Lock Switch Operation
  12. Pass Cylinder Lock Switch Operation

Testing

  1. Insert key into suspect door key cylinder. Using key, lock and unlock door several times. If door switch moves freely, go to next step. If door switch does not move freely, repair or replace suspect door key cylinder assembly.
  2. Turn ignition off. Access and disconnect driver's side door key cylinder switch 2-pin connector. Measure resistance between driver's side door key cylinder switch connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire.
  3. Access and disconnect passenger's side door key cylinder switch 2-pin connector. Measure resistance between passenger's side door key cylinder switch connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire.
  4. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect Central Timer Module (CTM) connector C2. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between CTM connector C2 terminal No. 10 (Black/Orange wire) and ground. See Figure . If resistance is more than 1000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 1000 ohms, repair short to ground in cylinder lock switch MUX circuit.
  5. Using a DVOM, measure resistance of Black/Orange wire between driver's cylinder lock switch connector terminal No. 2 and CTM connector C2 terminal No. 10. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms repair open in Black/Orange wire.
  6. Using a DVOM, measure resistance of Black/Orange wire between passenger's cylinder lock switch connector terminal No. 2 and CTM connector C2 terminal No. 10. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms repair open in Black/Orange wire.
  7. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between CTM connector C2 terminal No. 10 (Black/Orange wire) and ground. If voltage is less than one volt, go to next step. If voltage is one volt or more, repair short to voltage in Black/Orange wire.
  8. Connect CTM connectors. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage by backprobing between ground and at CTM connector C2 terminal No. 10 (Black/Orange wire). If voltage is 8-11 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 8-10 volts, replace CTM.
  9. Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between driver's side door key cylinder switch connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire.
  10. Connect all components. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select BODY, BODY CONTROLLER, SENSORS. Monitor CYLINDER LOCK SW voltage while turning another key in driver's side door key cylinder from neutral to unlock position. If voltage is one volt in UNLOCK position and about 3.4 volts in NEUTRAL position, go to next step. If voltage is not one volt in UNLOCK position and about 3.4 volts in NEUTRAL position, replace driver's side door key cylinder switch.
  11. Turn ignition off. Access and disconnect passenger's side door key cylinder lock switch connector. Measure resistance between passenger's side door key cylinder switch connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire.
  12. Connect all components. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select BODY, BODY CONTROLLER, SENSORS. Monitor CYLINDER LOCK SW voltage while turning another key in passenger's side door key cylinder from neutral to unlock position. If voltage is not one volt in UNLOCK position and about 3.4 volts in NEUTRAL position, replace passenger's side door key cylinder switch. If voltage is one volt in UNLOCK position and about 3.4 volts in NEUTRAL position, test is complete.
