Liftgate Ajar Circuit Shorted To Ground

NOTE: This procedure does not apply to vehicles equipped with power liftgate.

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.

Using scan tool, select INPUTS/OUTPUTS and monitor LIFTGATE AJAR SW state. Access and disconnect liftgate ajar switch connector. See POWER SLIDING DOORS & LIFTGATE article. If LIFTGATE AJAR SW state does not change from CLOSED to OPEN, go to next step. If LIFTGATE AJAR SW state changes from CLOSED to OPEN, replace liftgate ajar switch.
Locate and disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connector C3. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . See Figure. Using a test light connected to battery voltage, probe liftgate ajar switch connector terminal No. 2 (Violet/Orange wire). If test light illuminates, repair short to ground in Violet/Orange wire between liftgate ajar switch and ground. If test light does not illuminate, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
