Intermediate Shaft: Installation
- Match flats inside intermediate shaft with that on intermediate shaft extension, then slide intermediate shaft onto extension.
- Install pinch bolt fastening intermediate shaft to intermediate shaft extension (Figure ). Tighten pinch bolt to 43 N.m (32 ft. lbs.) torque.
- Slide intermediate shaft silencer shell over intermediate shaft and onto studs on dash panel while inserting lower mounting stud though cover and dash panel (Figure ).
- Install two upper intermediate shaft silencer shell/cover mounting nuts (Figure ). Tighten nuts to 2.8 N.m (25 in. lbs.) torque.
- Raise and support vehicle. (Refer to JACKING & HOISTING )
- Install lower silencer shell/cover mounting nut (Figure ). Tighten nuts to 2.8 N.m (25 in. lbs.) torque.
- Ensure intermediate shaft cover shield is extended down over top of gear housing closing off shaft area.
- Lower vehicle.
- Connect steering column coupling to intermediate shaft (Figure
). To. do so:
- Match intermediate shaft to coupling pinch loop.
- Install coupling pinch bolt. Tighten to 28 N.m (21 ft. lbs.) torque.
- Install hair pin at end of pinch bolt.
- Remove steering wheel holder.
- Connect battery negative (-) cable to battery post.
- Road test vehicle to ensure proper operation of steering.
