Seal-Rear Output Shaft: Installation

2 - TRANSFER CASE
  1. Install a new rear output shaft seal into the transfer case (2) using Seal Installer C-3860A (1). See Fig 1.
  2. Coat both the outer surface and the seal lip with automatic transmission fluid.

    2 - REAR OUTPUT SHAFT FLANGE
    NOTE: Apply a light coating of automatic transmission fluid to the flange splines prior to installation.
    CAUTION: It may be necessary to use a block of wood and a soft-faced hammer to install the flange since the flange may have a slight interference fit to the output shaft.
  3. Install the rear output shaft flange onto the rear output shaft.
  4. Install a new nut onto the output shaft.
  5. Using Holder 6958 (1), tighten the rear output shaft flange (2) nut to 250 N.m (185 ft.lbs.). See Fig 2.
  6. Install the rear propeller shaft. (Refer to DIFFERENTIAL & DRIVELINE/PROPELLER SHAFT - INSTALLATION)
  7. Check and correct the transfer case oil level. (Refer to TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE/TRANSFER CASE - MS140/FLUID - STANDARD PROCEDURE)
