  1. Place steering column (4) over mounting studs (3) and install four nuts (5, 6) fastening column to column mounting bracket (2). Tighten nuts to 12 N.m (105 in. lbs.).
  2. Connect steering column coupling to intermediate shaft. See Figure. To do so:
    • Match intermediate shaft (1) to coupling pinch loop.
    • Install coupling pinch bolt (8). Tighten to 28 N.m (21 ft. lbs.).
    • Install hair pin (7) through end of pinch bolt.

  3. Slide multi-function switch mounting housing (3) onto column and install mounting screw (2). Tighten screw to 1.9 N.m (17 in. lbs.).

  4. Install column wiring harness routing clip (2) into left side of column. See Figure.
  5. Install lower (6) and upper (3) shrouds around steering column (1). See Figure:
    • Snap shrouds together at locking tab locations on both sides.
    • Install center mounting screw securing lower shroud to column. Tighten screw to 2 N.m (18 in. lbs.).
    • Install two outer mounting screws (7) securing lower shroud to upper shroud. Tighten screws to 2 N.m (18 in. lbs.).
    • Inspect shroud mating surfaces for excessive gaps and adjust as necessary.
  6. Install knee blocker airbag and all components necessary to access. Refer to REMOVAL .

  7. Match splines on steering wheel hub with that on steering shaft, then slide steering wheel (3) onto column shaft.
  8. Install damper (4) on steering wheel.
  9. Install steering wheel retaining bolt (5). Tighten bolt to 61 N.m (45 ft. lbs.).

  10. Connect speed control wiring connector (2) at clockspring (3).

  11. Connect two airbag squib connectors (1, 2) and horn connector (5) to driver airbag. See Figure.
  12. Place driver airbag (3) on steering wheel and install mounting screws (4). See Figure. Tighten screws to 10 N.m (90 in. lbs.).
  13. Connect battery negative (-) cable to battery post following special Diagnosis And Testing procedure. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING .
  14. Check operation of all steering column mounted components.
  15. Road test vehicle to ensure operation of steering.
