Diagnostic Test
- ACTIVE DTC NOTE: Improper installation of a block heater could cause this DTC to set.NOTE: Review Freeze Frame data. Extremely cold ambient temperatures may cause this DTC to set.NOTE: Diagnose and repair any ECT sensor circuit or temperature sensor performance DTCs before continuing with this test.NOTE: Inspect the cooling system for any conditions that can cause a change in engine warm up time, such as a broken water pump impeller or the addition of an aftermarket auxiliary cooler.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, select View DTCs.
Is the status Active for this DTC?
Yes
- Go to step 2
No
- The DTC is not active at this time. Refer to the CHECKING FOR AN INTERMITTENT DTC Diagnostic Procedure. See DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure .

- Perform the diagnostic procedure for CHECKING THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR OPERATION

Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. See DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure .
No
- Perform the CHECKING FOR AN INTERMITTENT DTC Diagnostic Procedure. See DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure .
- Perform the diagnostic procedure for CHECKING THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR OPERATION
