Driver Airbag: Operation

The inflator assembly is mounted to back of airbag. The inflator seals hole in airbag cushion so it can discharge gas it produces directly into cushion when supplied with proper electrical signal. The protective trim cover is fitted to front of driver airbag and forms a decorative cover in center of steering wheel. Upon airbag deployment, trim cover will split at predetermined breakout line around perimeter of horn switch.
