Upper Control Arm: Assembly
- Start first isolator bushing into control arm bushing bore by hand. Be sure bushing is installed straight. See Fig 1
. Place pivot bar washers on each end of pivot bar. Slide pivot bar through control arm and bushing as shown. Place Installer, Special Tool (6969-6), over mounting hole in upper control arm pivot bar as shown and then install attachment pin. See Fig 2

- Install Nut, Special Tool (6969-4), on end of pivot bar. See Fig 2
. Assemble Bolt and Nut, thrust washer, and cup, special tools (6969-3), (6969-1) and (6969-7) to form bushing installer. Install assembled pieces of bushing bar before placing bushing on bar. installer on upper control arm pivot bar as shown. The tool is installed by threading Bolt, Special Tool (6969-3), into Nut, Special Tool (6969-4).
- Install isolator bushing. To do this, hold bolt from turning while rotating nut on bolt threads clockwise. This will press isolator bushing into upper control arm. Press bushing into arm until outer bushing flange bottoms against control arm bushing boss. Do not leave a gap. Remove special tools.
- Install second isolator bushing into its bore by hand. Make sure pivot bar washer is on bar before placing bushing on bar. Place Installer, Special Tool (6969-6), over mounting hole in upper control arm pivot bar and then install attachment pin. Square Installer, Special Tool (6969-6), up against control arm bushing boss. Install Nut, Special Tool (6969-4), on end of pivot bar.
- Install assembled pieces of bushing installer removed from opposite end of bar onto end of pivot bar needing bushing installation. See Fig 3
. The tool is installed by threading Bolt, Special Tool (6969-3), into Nut, Special Tool (6969-4). Install isolator bushing. To do this, hold bolt from turning while rotating nut on bolt threads clockwise. This will press isolator bushing into upper control arm.
- Press bushing into arm until outer bushing flange bottoms against control arm bushing boss. Do not leave a gap. Remove special tools. Install a nut and washer on each end of pivot bar. Tighten nuts just enough to hold pivot bar in place. Do not fully tighten at this time. This must be done once arm is back on vehicle and vehicle is positioned at design height. Install upper control arm on vehicle.
