Turn Signal Indicator Light Concerns
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see
BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A
after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
- Turn ignition on. Turn on each individual turn signal. If turn signal(s) is not working, see EXTERIOR LIGHTS article. If turn signals are operating correctly, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, read turn signal status. Turn on right turn signal. If scan tool does not display TURN SIGNAL status changing from OPEN to CLOSED, go to step 7 . If scan tool displays TURN SIGNAL status changing from OPEN to CLOSED, go to next step.
- Turn on left turn signal. If scan tool does not display TURN SIGNAL status changing from OPEN to CLOSED, go to step 7 . If scan tool displays TURN SIGNAL status changing from OPEN to CLOSED, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect information center connector. Remove ignition key. Turn off all lights and accessories. Close all doors. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and information center connector terminal No. 3 (Black wire). If resistance is 10 ohms or more, repair open Black wire. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step.
- Remove and inspect both information center turn signal bulbs. Replace as needed. Turn ignition on. Turn on right turn signal. Connect test light to between ground and information center connector terminal No. 4 (Brown/Red wire). If test light does not flash, repair open Brown/Red wire. If test light flashes, go to next step.
- Turn on left turn signal. Connect test light to information center terminal No. 2 (Dark Green/Red wire). If test light does not flash, repair open Dark Green/Red wire. If test light flashes, replace information center.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Access junction block internal 23-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Turn on right turn signal. Using test light, probe internal connector, terminal No. 21. If test light does not flash, repair or replace junction block. If test light flashes, go to next step.
- Turn on left turn signal. Using test light, probe internal connector, terminal No. 19. If test light does not flash, repair or replace junction block. If test light flashes, replace BCM.
