Remote Steering Wheel Switches Inoperative

NOTE: For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A  after each repair.
  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is a 16-pin connector located under left side of dash, to left of steering wheel. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If scan tool display is not blank or have a CCD bus failure message, go to next step. If scan tool display is blank or has a CCD bus failure message, see appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article.
  2. Turn radio on. Operate all radio remote control functions in steering wheel. If one remote control function is inoperative, replace inoperative switch. If more than one remote control function is inoperative, go to next step.
  3. Turn radio off. Disconnect battery and wait 2 minutes. Disconnect and remove air bag module from steering wheel. Disconnect inoperative radio control switch 2-pin connector. Turn ignition on and reconnect battery. Turn radio on. Connect jumper wire between ground and inoperative radio control switch 2-pin connector Red/Black wire. If radio changes stations, repair open ground circuit (Black/Light Green wire) between inoperative radio control switch and ground. If radio stations do not change, go to next step.
  4. Move jumper wire to 4-pin connector Red/Black wire. If radio changes stations, repair open Red/Black wire between switch and 4-pin connector. If radio stations do not change, go to next step.
  5. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and inoperative radio control switch 2-pin connector Red/Black wire. If voltage is about 5 volts, replace radio. If voltage is not about 5 volts, go to next step.
  6. Measure voltage between ground and 4-pin connector Red/Black wire. If voltage is about 5 volts, replace clockspring. If voltage is not about 5 volts, go to next step.
  7. Gain access to Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located behind right kick panel. Do not disconnect connector. Measure voltage between ground and CTM 18-pin connector terminal No. 14 (Red/Black wire). If voltage is about 5 volts, repair open Red/Black wire between CTM and 4-pin connector. If voltage is not about 5 volts, replace CTM.
