Bus Bias Level Too Low Or Too High

CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector or battery.
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect scan tool. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and Data Link Connector (DLC) terminal No. 3 (Violet/Brown wire). Measure voltage between ground and DLC terminal No. 11 (White/Black wire). If either reading is not 1.8-2.8 volts, repair open in Violet/Brown wire or White/Black wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  . If both readings are 1.8-2.8 volts, replace scan tool cable or scan tool.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC). Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and MIC connector C1 terminal No. 10 (Violet/Brown wire). Measure resistance between ground and MIC connector C1 terminal No. 9 (White/Black wire). If both resistance readings are less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If either resistance reading is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Violet/Brown wire or White/Black wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  .
  3. Ensure interior lighting if off. Measure resistance between ground and MIC connector C1 terminals No. 10 (Violet/Brown wire) and No. 9 (White/Black wire). If either resistance reading is less than 1000 ohms, repair short to ground in Violet/Brown wire or White/Black wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  . If both resistance readings are 1000 ohms or more, go to next step.
  4. Measure resistance of all MIC ground circuits. On Dakota, measure between ground and MIC connector C1 terminals No. 4 (Black/Light Green wire) and No. 5 (Black wire). On Durango, measure between ground and MIC connector C1 terminals No. 4 (Black/Tan wire) and No. 5 (Black wire). On all models, if any resistance reading is 5 ohms or more, repair open or high resistance in affected circuit. If all resistance readings are less than 5 ohms, replace MIC. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  .
