Bus Bias Level Too Low Or Too High
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector or battery.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect scan tool. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and Data Link Connector (DLC) terminal No. 3 (Violet/Brown wire). Measure voltage between ground and DLC terminal No. 11 (White/Black wire). If either reading is not 1.8-2.8 volts, repair open in Violet/Brown wire or White/Black wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST . If both readings are 1.8-2.8 volts, replace scan tool cable or scan tool.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC). Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and MIC connector C1 terminal No. 10 (Violet/Brown wire). Measure resistance between ground and MIC connector C1 terminal No. 9 (White/Black wire). If both resistance readings are less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If either resistance reading is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Violet/Brown wire or White/Black wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- Ensure interior lighting if off. Measure resistance between ground and MIC connector C1 terminals No. 10 (Violet/Brown wire) and No. 9 (White/Black wire). If either resistance reading is less than 1000 ohms, repair short to ground in Violet/Brown wire or White/Black wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST . If both resistance readings are 1000 ohms or more, go to next step.
- Measure resistance of all MIC ground circuits. On Dakota, measure between ground and MIC connector C1 terminals No. 4 (Black/Light Green wire) and No. 5 (Black wire). On Durango, measure between ground and MIC connector C1 terminals No. 4 (Black/Tan wire) and No. 5 (Black wire). On all models, if any resistance reading is 5 ohms or more, repair open or high resistance in affected circuit. If all resistance readings are less than 5 ohms, replace MIC. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
