DTC 12: Column Switch Fault Or Improper Connection: Testing
- Check ignition switch position. If DTC 12 does not set with ignition switch in ON position, go to next step. If DTC 12 sets with ignition switch in ON position, go to step 5
.
- Using DVOM, backprobe and measure voltage between ground and Column ECU connector terminal No. 1. See Figure
and Fig 1
. If battery voltage is not indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is indicated, go to step 8
.
- Check for poor connections at Column ECU connector terminals. Repair terminals or connector as necessary. Recheck for DTCs. If connections are okay, go to next step.
- Check for fault in Black/White wire between Column ECU connector terminal No. 9 and fuse No. 13 (10-amp) located in junction block. If faulty circuit is found, repair as necessary. Recheck for DTCs. If circuit is okay, system is okay at this time.
- Disconnect Column ECU connector. See Figure
. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and Column ECU connector terminal No. 4 (Black wire). See Fig 1
. If resistance is greater than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 2 ohms or less, go to step 8
.
- Check for poor connections at Column ECU connector terminals. Repair terminals or connector as necessary. Recheck for DTCs. If connections are okay, go to next step.
- Check for fault in Black wire between Column ECU connector terminal No. 4 and ground. If faulty circuit is found, repair as necessary. Recheck for DTCs. If circuit is okay, system is okay at this time.
- Check for poor connections at Column ECU and Electronic Timer Alarm Control System Electronic Control Unit (ETACS ECU) connector terminals. See Figure
. Repair terminals or connector as necessary. Recheck for DTCs. If connections are okay, go to next step.
- Check for fault in Blue/White wire between Column ECU connector terminal No. 3 and ETACS ECU connector C313 terminal No. 42. See Fig 2
. Check for fault in Green/Red wire between Column ECU connector terminal No. 2 and ETACS ECU connector terminal No. 43. If faulty circuit is found, repair as necessary. Recheck for DTCs. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Replace Column ECU. See COLUMN ECU
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck for DTCs. If DTC 12 resets, replace ETACS ECU. If DTC 12 does not reset, repair is complete.
