Diagnostic Test
- ACTIVE DTC
- Turn the Ignition on.
- With the scan tool, select View DTCs and record the related Freeze Frame data.
Is the DTC Active at this time?
Yes
- Go to step 2
No
- Perform the CHECKING FOR AN INTERMITTENT DTC diagnostic procedure. See DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure .
- REVERSE LOCKOUT SOLENOID
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Reverse Lockout Solenoid harness connector.
- Turn the Ignition on.NOTE: Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.
- Connect the DVOM between the Reverse Lockout Solenoid Control Circuit and the Ground Circuit.
- With a scan tool, actuate the Reverse Lockout Solenoid.
Does the DVOM read approximately 12 volts when the solenoid is actuated?
Yes
- Verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the Solenoid and Powertrain Control Module connectors. If OK, replace the Reverse Lockout Solenoid.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. See DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure .
No
- Go to step 3
- (Z902) GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Using a 12-volt test light connected to B+, probe the (Z902) Ground circuit.NOTE: The test light must be brightly lit. If the test light does not light or is Dim repair the circuit for a open or high resistance circuit.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Go to step 4
No
- Repair the open or high resistance in the (Z902) Ground circuit.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. See DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure .
- (K333) REVERSE LOCKOUT SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE

- Disconnect the C1 PCM harness connector.
- Connect the PCM Pinout Box 8815 to the C1 PCM harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (K333) Reverse Lockout Solenoid Control circuit from the PCM Pinout Box 8815 to the Reverse Lockout Solenoid harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go to step 5
No
- Repair the open or high resistance in the (K333) Reverse Lockout Solenoid Control circuit.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. See DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure .
- (K333) REVERSE LOCKOUT SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (K333) Reverse Lockout Solenoid Control circuit in the Solenoid harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
Yes
- Repair the short to ground in the (K333) Reverse Lockout Solenoid Control circuit.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. See DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure .
No
- Go to step 6
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (K333) Reverse Lockout Solenoid Control circuit in the Solenoid harness connector.
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Solenoid and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
- Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
- Verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the Solenoid and Powertrain Control Module connectors.
- Perform any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) that may apply.
If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair.
Repair
- Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module per Service Information.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. See DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure .
