CAUTION:
The Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) is centered to the vehicles steering system. Failure to keep the system and steering column module centered and locked/inhibited from rotating can result in SCCM damage.
- Lift and rotate the steering gear (1) as necessary to install from behind the knuckle/rotor assembly (2) of the RH wheel area.
- Rotate the steering gear (1) into position, install the steering gear retaining nuts/bolts (2) and tighten to 244 N.m (180 ft. lbs.).
- Install the outer tie rod ends. Refer to END, TIE ROD, INSTALLATION .
- Install the RH shock. Refer to SHOCK ABSORBER, SUSPENSION, INSTALLATION .
- Connect the pressure line (1), and the return line (2) at the gear (3) and tighten to 28 N.m (21 ft. lbs.).
CAUTION:
The steering gear must be centered prior to installing the coupler to prevent clockspring damage.
- Connect the steering shaft coupler (1) to the steering shaft (3), install a new coupler pinch bolt (2) and tighten to 49 N.m (36 ft. lbs.).
- Install the front skid plate. Refer to PLATE, SKID, FRONT, INSTALLATION .
- Install the wheels and tires. Refer to WHEELS, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
- Remove the steering wheel lock.
- Fill the power steering pump. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Set the toe. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
