Arm, Lower Control: Installation

NOTE:

When installing cam bolts (2) and washers (3), be sure holes in cams are located at 12 O'clock.

  1. Position lower control arm (5) in mounting brackets on frame. Install cam bolts (2) as shown through mounting brackets. Install cam washers (3) and nuts. DO NOT FULLY TIGHTEN CAM BOLT NUTS AT THIS TIME.

    NOTE:

    Lubricate ball joint, if applicable. Lubricate ball joint assembly using Mopar® Multi-Mileage Lube or equivalent.

  2. Install lower ball joint stud into steering knuckle. Install lower ball joint castle nut (4), Do not tighten at this time.

  3. Install shock assembly (6) into mounting bracket on lower control arm (5). Install shock assembly mounting bolt and nut.DO NOT TIGHTEN MOUNTING BOLT AT THIS TIME. 
  4. Install stabilizer bar link (4) into mounting hole on lower control arm (5). Install stabilizer bar link to lower control arm nut. Do not tighten at this time.

  5. Install ABS wheel speed sensor head (2) in steering knuckle (1) and tighten the mounting bolt (3) to the proper specifications. Refer to ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM FASTENER TORQUE .
  6. Install brake rotor and brake caliper on knuckle. Refer to ROTOR, BRAKE, INSTALLATION .
  7. Install wheel and tire assembly Refer to INSTALLATION .
  8. Remove supports and lower vehicle.
  9. Position vehicle on alignment rack/drive-on hoist.

    NOTE:

    On models equipped with six piston calipers the calipers need to be unbolted from the knuckle and hung out of the way so that the suspension height stands can be installed correctly.

  10. Remove tire and wheels assemblies and install (special tool #9096, Height Stands, Suspension) (1) onto the hub and bearing assembly (2) and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS .
  11. Set vehicle to curb height. Refer to CURB HEIGHT MEASUREMENT  .
  12. Tighten shock assembly lower mounting bolt to the proper specifications. Refer to FRONT, SPECIFICATIONS .
    NOTE:

    Once nut is tightened to specified torque, it may be necessary to continue tightening nut to allow installation of cotter pin through nut castle and hole in ball joint stud (DO NOT LOOSEN NUT).

  13. Tighten lower ball joint stud nut to the proper specifications. Refer to FRONT, SPECIFICATIONS .
  14. Install cotter pin (2) through lower ball joint castle nut and stud.
  15. Tighten stabilizer bar link to lower control arm nut to the proper specifications. Refer to FRONT, SPECIFICATIONS .
    NOTE:

    On models equipped with six piston calipers the calipers need to be reinstalled onto the knuckle and tighten the two mounting bolts to the proper specifications. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS  .

  16. Remove the special tool and install the tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to INSTALLATION .
  17. Perform wheel alignment. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT  . Once camber and caster have been set, tighten lower control arm pivot cam bolt nuts to the proper specifications. Refer to  FRONT, SPECIFICATIONS  
  18. Road test vehicle to ensure proper operation.
