Arm, Upper Control: Installation
- Position upper control arm (1) in mounting brackets on frame. Install mounting bolts as shown through mounting brackets and control arm bushings. Install nuts on frame mounting bolts.DO NOT FULLY TIGHTEN BOLTS AT THIS TIME. NOTE:
Lubricate ball joint, if applicable. Lubricate ball joint assembly using Mopar® Multi-Mileage Lube or equivalent.
- Install upper ball joint stud into steering knuckle. Install ball joint castle nut (6). Do not tighten at this time.
- Install ABS wheel speed sensor head (2) in steering knuckle (1) and tighten mounting bolt (3) to the proper specification. Refer to ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM FASTENER TORQUE .
- Install brake rotor and brake caliper on knuckle. Refer to ROTOR, BRAKE, INSTALLATION .
- Install wheel and tire assembly Refer to INSTALLATION .
- Lower vehicle.
- Position vehicle on alignment rack/drive-on hoist.NOTE:
On models equipped with six piston calipers the calipers need to be unbolted from the knuckle and hung out of the way so that the suspension height stands can be installed correctly.
- Remove tire and wheels assemblies and install (special tool #9096, Height Stands, Suspension) (1) onto the hub and bearing assembly (2) and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS .
- Set vehicle to curb height. Refer to CURB HEIGHT MEASUREMENT .
- Tighten upper control arm frame mounting bolts to the proper specifications. Refer to FRONT, SPECIFICATIONS .NOTE:
Once nut is tightened to specified torque, it may be necessary to continue tightening nut a small amount to allow for cotter pin installation through castle nut and hole in ball joint stud. DO NOT LOOSEN NUT.
- Tighten upper ball joint castle nut to the proper specifications. Refer to FRONT, SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install cotter pin (1) through upper ball joint castle nut and stud.NOTE:
On models equipped with six piston calipers the calipers need to be reinstalled onto the knuckle and tighten the two mounting bolts to the proper specifications. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS .
- Remove the special tool and install the tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to INSTALLATION .
- Perform wheel alignment. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT .
- Road test vehicle to ensure proper operation.
