Automatic Transmission (Service Information): Installation

  1. Place the transmission into position and install the five engine to transmission bolts (1) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

    NOTE:

    Make sure to align the slotted hole reference marks made during removal.

  2. Install torque converter bolts (1) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  3. Install the torque converter dust shield (1).

  4. Connect the Transfer Shaft Speed Sensor wire harness connector (1).
  5. Connect the Output Speed Sensor wire harness connector (2).

  6. Attach the wiring harness push pin (1).

  7. Install the engine to transmission bolt (1) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  8. Position the starter in place, install the starter bolts (1) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  9. Install the rear engine mount fasteners (2), tighten to proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  10. Install the front engine mount. Refer to INSULATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, FRONT, INSTALLATION .
  11. Install the front and both side splash shields. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, LEFT REAR WHEELHOUSE, INSTALLATION .
  12. Install both halfshafts. Refer to INSTALLATION .

  13. Install the transmission upper bell housing bolt and stud (1) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  14. Attach the wiring harness retainer (1) to the upper transmission bell housing stud.

  15. Connect the transmission wire harness connector (1).

  16. Connect the input speed sensor wire harness connector (1).

  17. Connect the shift cable (1) to the bracket.

  18. Connect the shift cable end (1) to the transmission manual control lever. Verify proper adjustment. Refer to CABLE, SHIFT, ADJUSTMENTS .

  19. Connect the transmission oil cooler lines (1) to the transmission. An audible 'click' should be heard. Verify the connection by pulling outward.
  20. Install the vacuum pump. Refer to PUMP, ELECTRIC VACUUM, INSTALLATION .
  21. Install the battery tray. Refer to TRAY, BATTERY, INSTALLATION .
  22. Install the battery. Refer to BATTERY, INSTALLATION .
  23. Fill the transmission. Refer to FLUID, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
