Battery System (Service Information): Battery: Installation

WARNING:

To protect eyes from battery acid, a suitable pair of industrial grade safety glasses, should be worn when removing or servicing a battery.

WARNING:

To protect the hands from battery acid, a suitable pair of industrial grade heavy duty rubber gloves, should be worn when removing or servicing a battery. Safety glasses also should be worn.

WARNING:

Remove metallic jewelry to avoid injury by accidental arcing of battery current.

  1. Install the battery (1) into the battery tray (2).
  2. If equipped, position the battery vent tube through the hole in the bottom of the battery tray.

  3. Install the battery clamps (1, 3). Tighten the nut (2) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  4. Install the negative battery cable onto the battery post. Lock the clamp (1).

  5. If removed, install the battery disconnect fuse (2). Tighten the nut (1) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  6. Install the positive battery cable (5) to the fuse block. Tighten the nut (4) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  7. If removed, position the battery fuse block (3) and insert the clamp onto the positive battery post. Tighten the clamp nut (1) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  8. Install the fasteners (2).

  9. Install the battery cover (1) and related fasteners (2, 3).
