Arm, Upper Control: Installation

  1. Position the upper control arm (5) to the vehicle.
    NOTE:

    It is necessary to pull the bottom of the shock assembly outward just enough to install the upper control arm flag bolts (1) without completely removing the shock assembly.

    NOTE:

    Tighten the upper control arm to body bolts in the following sequence: Left side, front then rear. Right side, rear then front.

  2. Install the nuts and flag bolts (1) securing the upper control arm (5) to the body and tighten to proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  3. Install the upper ball joint (2) into the knuckle (3).
  4. Install the upper ball joint retaining nut (4) and tighten to proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  5. Install the speed sensor wiring retaining clip to the knuckle.
  6. Install the speed sensor, and install the speed sensor bolt (2) and tighten to proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  7. Install the clevis to lower control arm bolt/nut (6) and tighten to proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  8. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to WHEEL INSTALLATION .
  9. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.

  10. Tighten the three upper shock mounting nuts (1) to proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  11. If equipped, attach the wiring harness routing clip (2) to the shock mounting stud.

  12. For the right side only, position the HVAC air inlet duct (1) to the engine compartment side of the dash panel (3). Install the two nuts (2) that secure the HVAC air inlet duct (1) to the dash panel (3) and tighten to 4.5 N.m (40 in. lbs.).

  13. For the left side only, connect the steering intermediate shaft coupler (3), install the pinch bolt (1) and tighten to proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
    NOTE:

    3.6L shown in the illustration, others similar.

  14. For left side only, install the air cleaner housing as follows:
    1. Press the air cleaner housing onto the body grommets and install the pushpin (2).
    2. Route and connect the weather-strip (3) to the housing inlet.
    3. Connect the PCV air return hose and the power steering hose routing clip (not shown) to the air cleaner body.
    4. Connect the fresh air intake hose to the housing cover (1) and tighten the clamp (4).
    5. Install the air cleaner.
  15. Install the cowl extension silencer and the cowl panel cover. Refer to SILENCER, COWL EXTENSION, INSTALLATION . Refer to COVER, COWL PANEL, INSTALLATION .
