Current Output Test
NOTE:
Battery must be fully charged and in good condition before proceeding with current output test.
- Using an ammeter, connect ammeter in series with positive battery cable. Using a voltmeter, connect positive voltmeter lead to positive battery post and negative lead to negative battery post. Connect carbon pile rheostat to battery. Ensure carbon pile rheostat is in the "OFF" position before connecting to battery.
- Start engine and allow 15 minutes for warm-up. Ensure a charging rate of 13 volts before testing output. Adjust engine RPM according to specification. See ALTERNATOR SPECIFICATIONS table at end of this article.
- Turn carbon pile to match alternator output. Battery voltage should not drop below 13 volts. If alternator output is not according to specification, replace alternator.
