Test NS-3A - Checking Spark Delivery

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove all spark plugs. Inspect spark plug tips for fuel fouling. Dry spark plug tips if wet. If spark plug tips are not wet, reinstall spark plugs. Crank engine, and read total spark advance using DRB-II.
  2. If total spark advance is not 0-25 degrees BTDC, replace Single Board Engine Controller (SBEC). Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If total spark advance is 0-25 degrees BTDC, check spark plug firing order. See Fig 1 . Correct spark plug firing order if necessary. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  3. If spark plug firing order is correct, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Check valve timing and compression. Repair as required. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If valve timing and compression are within specification, replace MAP sensor. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
