Automatic Seat Belts: Description

CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See appropriate COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.

The passive belt system consists of a seat belt control module, track and motor assemblies and a retractor assembly. The basic operation of the system is to position the tab in its rear position when the ignition switch is on and the door switch is open to ground (door closed position). The seat belt control module will verify proper operation through the track position switches and the seat belt retractor switches.

The track is mounted to the "A" pillar, roof rail and "B" pillar. A drive cable runs from the lock box on the track to the motor located in the lower "B" pillar. The upper torso belt release buckle is attached to a carrier that moves along the track. The torso and lap belt retractors are located in the center console. The lap belt is buckled manually to the buckle located at the side sill.
